Downslide

I'm not sure what to be sure of anymore.
I feel relevant, like I've learned something over the years, some semblance of wisdom I suppose.
My memories are dotted with clichés, "one day you'll  understand ", "do what I say, not as I do".
At some point during the journey, we begin to understand more clichés:
" hind sight is 20/20", " live every day likes it's your last", " and who hasn't ignored advice from an elder that said
" Don't do something you're gonna regret"?
You've topped the hill.
You are in the down slide
I no longer recognize the youth of America today. I would imagine my generation was the same way, but I find it uncomfortable to realize my interpretation of what youth should be, is a reflection  of a younger mind from a different time.
Not relevant.
Wisdom that no longer pertains.
No country for old men.
Downslide.
It's said that the more things change the more they stay  the same.
There's a lot of evidence to support that.
Just about everything is the renovation of a common solution for humanity's problems and our quest for convenience and comfort.
The rate of change in America seemingly has no limit.
It has become habitual,  and things have most definitely changed.

SOUTH IN YOU by Dennis Ogle

Let me show you 'round
My favorite stompin' ground
Come see what's goin' on
Down below the Mason Dixon
Just keep an open mind
Honey in no time
You'll be drinkin' sweet tea,
Eatin' grits, and sayin' Y'ALL and FIXIN'
Well I know you wanna go
And I promise you  you're gonna
Feel right at home, so honey
Get packed up, jump in my truck
Just gimme a little of your time
And maybe a kiss for good luck.

If you ain't never been
Down in The South
Let me put a little  South in you!
If you ain't never been
Down in the South
Let me put a little  South in you!

From Lookout Mountain in Tennessee
Down to Stone Mountain, and
You've got to see the city
Atlanta Georgia, so dear to me
And the mighty Chattahoochee
Sings a symphony,
Carry me Down Home!

FLYING CAR by D. Ogle

I wish I could fly,
But while I'm drivin' my car.
Then
I  could track you down
and love you no matter where
You are.
I could touch down on the red carpet
Like a movie star
Just few of the things  I'd do
With a flying  Car.

I wish I could drive
Till  I started to fly
I could start drinkin'again
and never get a DUI.
I could burn rubber on the ground,
and do doughnuts in the sky.
Just a few things I'd do
If my car could fly.
Just a few things I'd do
With a flyin' Car.

SAD BUT TRUE #2

Once upon a time
I couldn't pay rent
I thought
"Hey f%&k it! I'll live in a tent!"
Bought beer, rope,and tarps
with the the rest of my change,
And built me a hut, in the woods,
in the rain.
I fashioned a couch from a car seat
I'd found
and hung a net hamock to keep my food off the ground.
A black and white battery operated TV, a gas burner to cook, and a flashlight to see.
Now it seems funny, I can look back and laugh
Cause I wasn't just hobo,
I was Hobo First Class!

SAD BUT TRUE #1

Once upon a time
I pawned a guitar
The one That I played when
I was tryin' to be a rock star.
Instead of payin' the debt
that I'd made
I drank that guitar
and I pissed it away

ONE MORE FALLEN TEAR by Dennis Ogle

Your love was my light
Now I stand alone in the darkness
The thing I thought could never be
is now the pain I thought I'd never feel.
One more fallen tear
would turn my heart to sand
and I'd be lost in the desert wind
One more fallen tear
would turn my heart to dust
At the mercy of the wind
One more fallen tear.
Our love was my life
I thought we were frozen in time
but all that was frozen was your heart
One more fallen tear
would cause my heart to die
like a raisin in the summer sun
One more fallen tear
would turn my heart to dust
At the mercy of the wind
One more Fallen tear.

UNLIKELY HERO by Dennis Ogle

You see him there everyday
Durin' your mornin' commute
Always standin' on the same street corner
tattered clothes and worn out boots
Carries a cardboard sign that says
I'll work for food
You never give the man a second thought

How would he have known it
When he woke up this mornin'
He'd be a different man in the eyes of everyone
That used to look down on him
Nobody knows this unlikely hero
Who really cares if his face has a name
whose gonna pray for this unlikely hero
Today the hands of the needy
Became the hands of fate
She was daddy's little girl
And she loved it when he'd drive her to school
The road was slick from the rain last night
He was takin' it slow and cool
Overloaded semi swerved into her daddy's lane
But she was pulled from the flames
By the hands of fate

How would he have known it
When he woke up this mornin'
He'd be a different man in the eyes of everyone
That used to look down on him
Nobody knows this unlikely hero
Who really cares if his face has a name
Who's gonna pray for this unlikely hero
today the hands of the needy
Became the hands of fate

It wasn't that long ago he was a young man
A young man with a dream, and an open road
to his destiny
